    Evan Madin

Evan Madin is a New York State Certified English Teacher of 23 years. Evan has built an accredited College Journalism program and campus radio station. He has also created and maintained a school-wide Internship program. Evan has extensive skills in writing, media, and storytelling, all of which are crucial to the college application process. In his years of teaching Advanced Placement English Language, Evan has reviewed hundreds of student writing samples and given feedback on them. He has also created a two-week bootcamp unit for students on how the college essay is a different type of written response than those in traditional English classes.

For Evan, the college essay does not need to feel cliche. Anything but. In fact, he sees the essay sample as more journalistic than literary. He strongly believes every student has a unique story to tell–– it’s the crafting of that story arc that can bring nuance and depth to a student’s profile. If a student can present their essay sample as relatable to the audience, the piece will stand out from the pack.  The idea is to be a person, not a number.

Evan's philosophy is that the key to good writing is rewriting, reinventing and mentorship.

It’s all about the comprehensive feedback given on each draft. The goal is for students to take control of the essay process, and to present something meaningful to the college, but also to themselves.
